What rug should I put under my bed?
A bedroom is the place to retreat and find true peace and quiet. We can safely say that for most people, the bedroom is the most calming space in the home. Scientific research has shown that when you take time for rest and silence, you retain energy better, your brain works faster and your nervous system recovers.
We think it's incredibly important that your bedroom gives you that peace. But how exactly do you do that? Main item in your bedroom: a bed. Equally important is a rug! You want to hold on to that soft and lovely feeling when you're lying in bed as long as possible. Even when you get out of bed, you want warmth and comfort. That's why we're explaining in detail what kind of rug is suitable for under your bed.
But how do you choose the right rug for under your bed? Congratulations! The first choice is already made. The rug goes under the bed rather than loose in the room. This ensures that the elements in your bedroom come together in a harmonious whole. Of course, it's also possible to position a rug loosely from the bed. We'll share tips for this later in the article.
What kind of rug for under my bed?
What kind of rug goes under your bed is completely up to what you find beautiful. Think about material, shape, pattern and colours. Where you might be head over heels in love with a pink rug, someone else might find their peace in a black and white rug. Because almost every rug is suitable for under the bed and we have a wide selection of rugs, we understand that the choice can be quite difficult. We recommend you 'narrow it down'. 'Do I want a high-pile or low-pile rug?'. 'Do I want a solid rug or would I prefer a patchwork rug?' or 'do I choose a rectangular or a round rug?'. And there are plenty of other choices to help you decide what you like.
Tip #1: Write down what's important to you and set conditions that a rug should meet. Are you someone who scours Pinterest from top to bottom? Make your own mood board or check out our page for more inspiration.
How large should the rug be under my bed?
When placing a rug under your bed, it's of course important that the rug is also visible on the sides. Depending on the size of the bed, you ideally want a strip of between 60cm and 80cm of rug on each side. If you have a bed of 140x200cm, we recommend going for a 200x300cm rug. That way you have an 80cm strip on both sides of the bed where your feet can rest comfortably when you get out of bed.
Would you prefer a playful look in your bedroom? Then a round rug under the bed is a suitable option for you. A round rug breaks up all the straight lines in the room and makes a room look more spacious. But how do you place a round rug properly under your bed? One option is to place the rug in front of the bed, with the bed slightly on the rug. If you want the rug to be visible on both sides and at the end of the bed, we recommend going for a round rug ∅250cm. If you choose a vintage rug with a beautiful medallion in the middle, you'll naturally want it to be visible. In that case, you can choose to place the rug under just one corner of the bed. In short, the size of a rug can depend on the size of your bed, the design and the desired effect.
Tip #2: not sure which size fits your bed best? Use a tape measure and some masking tape to mark off a piece of floor where the rug will go. That way you'll immediately see which size works best for you.
Prefer a rug beside your bed
A rug doesn't always have to go under the bed – beside the bed works just as well. We understand perfectly well that it would be a shame if you had a beautiful vintage rug and the elegant medallion just disappeared under the bed. We've already mentioned that choosing a rug depends on what you find beautiful. If you prefer a rug beside your bed, we advise you to place the rug partially under the bed. By placing the rug partially under your bed, you still create synergy in your bedroom. It transforms your bedroom into a whole where furniture and accessories are connected by a bedroom rug. This brings you peace and calm again! You'd love to spend the whole day in the bedroom, wouldn't you?!
